LATCH: a driving safety app designed to reduce phone distractions

Reaching for a phone can pull attention away from the road. LATCH is a motion-aware driving safety platform being built in Utah to help limit access to distracting apps while driving.

How LATCH is designed to work

LATCH confirms vehicle movement, then automatically limits distracting apps. When the trip ends, the driver authenticates with Face ID or a four-digit PIN to restore full phone access. These descriptions reflect the company’s current website; the release build and supported devices should be checked before downloading.

Individual drivers and families

LATCH is preparing Individual and Family offerings for public launch on the Apple App Store. Fleet is described as coming soon. Availability, device requirements and pricing will be stated here when confirmed.

Questions to ask before choosing a driving app

Does it support your phone? Which apps does it limit? How does it handle passengers, navigation and emergency access? What information is collected or shared with family members? Those details matter when choosing a tool you will use regularly.

Driving technology supports a routine; drivers still need to pay attention to the road and manage distractions beyond the phone.

Built from a Utah founder’s experience

Founder Jordan Mendoza says a distracted driver struck his vehicle on I-15 after crossing the double white HOV lines. During recovery, he began asking whether access to the phone could be limited while driving. That question became LATCH.

Compatibility and Family reporting

The current LATCH app supports only the current iOS release. LATCH Family reporting costs $5.99 per month or $25 for one year of reporting access. These prices cover reporting only; app access pricing is not specified here.
